Lobster paints...: BBQ by the Beach @Sentosa_Island

How can one go without a BBQ session and enjoy lovely grilled meat or seafood during summer but then again planning and carrying out a BBQ can be quite tedious to begin with.

Fret not, in conjunction with Sentosa's 40th anniversary celebration, some of the scheduled programmes includes Tastes of Penang?which was held in May 2012 and now, BBQ by the Beach! And yup, you get awesome grilled items prepared just for you at a whooping admission price of $29.90 ++ that includes $30 worth of vouchers redeemable for food and drinks and complimentary view of a stunning sunset with sounds of waves crashing onto the shores. Hehe! :)

From left: Vertical Grill, Hot Charcoal BBQ Grill, Healthy Salad and Pepes & Ancient Imu style BBQ

Amara Sanctuary stall

where you can get Bonito Infused Cod fish, Grilled seafood platter or Crispy baby squid...

The rows of make-shift stalls set up between Coastes and Azzura Beach Club?were nicely decorated and every single stall looks really very welcoming that I seriously have no idea where to begin with. So I decided to go around a bit and watch the chefs preparing food for everybody behind each of the make-shift stalls before deciding... :D

Vertical Grill

where you can get grilled crayfish, prawns or squids...

Imu style BBQ

The Imu BBQ pit, an underground oven, is a pit dug into the ground and typically about 2 to 4 feet deep depending on the food that is going to be prepared. It is traditionally used to prepare whole pigs for a Hawaiian lu'au (feast).?

And here at Sentosa, you can enjoy seafood or Kampong chicken cooked in the Imu pits at temperatures that can go as high as 400?C that the food items have to be wrapped in foil to prevent them from getting burnt too quickly.?

It's a boat, it's a grill... No it's a boat grill!

That's Azzura Beach Club's chef grilling and preparing food for everyone there on their specially prepared grill that is shaped to resemble a boat to fit the event!?

Coastes' grilling pit

Watching a parcel of monkfish, black mussels and sweet shrimps in the grilling pit at Coastes?stall, I decided that everything is too tempting to miss and I started my gastronomic adventure at this very stall that evening.

Here's some highlights I gathered from what we savored that beautiful evening...

Coastes

Marinated Grilled Cod tongue - $16.00

with jalepeno and tomato salsa

The grilled cod tongue is probably something very new to me and something I will deem as not for the faint hearted. Strongly resembling the tastes of a typical fish stomach, a taste I have yet to master, the texture of the grilled cod tongue is a lighter on the soft side and slightly chewy.?

I will say that I am thankful for the jalepeno and tomato salsa that makes it so much more bearable to me.

Amara Sanctuary

Bonito Infused Cod Fish - $18.00

with sauteed mushroom and garlic fried rice

A common favorite at our table, this Bonito Infused Cod fish served with sauteed mushroom and garlic fried rice is seriously awesome. Frankly speaking, I am not much of a cod fish person but I found myself enjoying the grilled cod fillet marinated with butter and herbs cream that were still very very soft and tender after grilling and the combination with the savory sauteed mushroom and fried rice was really divine.

To add, this is actually a signature dish from Amara Sanctuary! :)

Crispy Baby squid - $12.00

barbecued?with sesame sauce

For a change from almost everything grilled, tender and succulent, you can opt for a crispy baby squid option. It is pretty similar to fried version but the grilled one is crispy but not teeth-breaking hard on the edges like the fried ones.

Grilled Seafood platter - $10.00

consists of king prawns, squid, salmon, baked potato and corn on cob

If you love your grilled seafood, I guess you will never ever go wrong with this platter of a great mix served with potato and corn on the sides!

Azzura

BBQ Beef skewers (4 sticks) - $10.00

Jerk marinated beef cubes skewered with honey cherry tomatoes and chargrilled

For a non-beef eater, I seriously mistaken them for lamb skewers instead!

The meat, though chargrilled and slightly burnt, was really luscious and supple instead of the dry and tough texture that I was expecting! Served with a complimenting sauce, the beef skewers were simply heavenly.

BBQ Mango Butter crayfish - $12.00

One other hot favourite at our table that evening was this dish of BBQ crayfish served with creamy mango butter cream. The sweet and slightly tangy cream sauce was actually a refreshing variant to pair with the crayfish and really enjoyable on the?palate.

Pepes & Ancient Imu Style BBQ

Fillet of baby Snapper - $10.00

with Sambal Blachan

Pepes Assorted Seafood

Since seafood was basically the main theme for the event, you are bound to see even more seafood available at the Pepes & Ancient Imu style BBQ stall.

While the grilled baby Snapper fillet served with sambal blachan was a tad too spicy for me, we all thought the assorted seafood one topped with garlic butter cream was really delish. Even though it was also spicy but you seriously cannot resist from popping more of the fresh and juicy seafood from the platter into your mouth.

Vertical Grill

Whole prawns and squid cooked on Vertical Grill - $5.00 each

While you enjoy seafood grilled and served in the most basic manner, you can go for the options available from the Vertical Grilling stall where you can find seafood items like crayfish, whole prawns and squid seasoned with a little salt and pepper and?barbecued.

Not only you get the taste the aroma from the charcoal, you get to taste the freshness of the seafood with minimal seasoning. Then again, there are accompanying sauces like pepper sauce, sambal, BBQ sauce, Tabasco, Chilli sauce, Tomato ketchup, Bjorn mustard, A1 and HP for you to pick from to go with your food stuffs.

Hot Charcoal BBQ Grill

Maker's Mark Bourbon Beef Rib - $10.00

Last but not least and another among the top favorites that evening, the beef ribs served with BBQ sauce was really scrumptious. Not only was the meat tender, the bourbon sauce marination though not very distinctive but enough to enhance the?flavors?all in all was a great combination in my opinion.

And just as I mentioned before, for a non-beef eater like myself, I found myself enjoying and reaching out for more of the beef ribs!

By the way, remember me saying earlier in this post that at Sentosa BBQ by the Beach, you get complimentary stunning sunset with sounds of waves lapping at the shore and that's not really all...

You can look forward to grooving along to some awesome beach tunes by your table...

And/ or enjoy two rounds of fireworks display from Songs of the Sea?too!

With that, that's the BBQ by the Beach at Sentosa for you.
Will you go on down and enjoy a great evening over BBQ food without so much more perks than planning and preparing your own BBQ session? :)
